Atkinson v. Holloway

Part 1

Atkinson v. Holloway

Case brought by John Atkinson of Liverpool a maker of colours for paints against Thomas Holloway of the city of London esquire. In 1793 Thomas Holloway and John Matthews of Liverpool had gone into partnership to establish a manufactory for making colours at Harrington near Liverpool. According to Atkinson, they knew very little about the process so Atkinson was brought in to supervise. Being a person of "small property" he was offered a wage for this and a share of the profts. John Matthews was declared bankrupt in 1793 and the business was continued by Holloway and Atkinson. During this time Atkinson developed several techniques which were patented and which he used to bargain with Holloway who he claims offfered him a quarter of the profits in exchange. Atkinson claims that he has not recieved these profts and that he has been sued for debts relating to the company by Holloway.
