Preston v. Ainsworth

Part 1

Preston v. Ainsworth

Case brought by Robert Preston of Liverpool merchant "who had for many years been accustomed to export large quantities of the goods to the West Indies" in 1799 he purchased goods for export from George Ainsworth of Warrington Tin Worker. These were bought on credit and bills of exchange were made for them. Preston claims that he was given 12 months credit and that Ainsworth (who had brought a case against hi in the Court of Common Pleas for Lancaster) has demanded payment before it was due. Ainsworth claims in the answer that there was never an agreement that credit should be extended for 12 months, and that payment was due in 3. Preston's business has not been entered, as it appears to be too large.
